- Complex hearing and tinnitus care – especially cases that have not responded well to standard approaches.
- Care pathways and systems design – building and refining workflows, programs, and patient education that work in real clinics.
- Training and mentorship – supporting clinicians and trainees who want to bridge clinical care, research, and systems-level thinking.
If you are looking for a collaborator, speaker, or partner in hearing and tinnitus care improvement work, this page gives a high-level overview and links to more detail.
Ways I Work With Professionals
Clinical care through UCSF
All direct patient care occurs through UCSF Audiology, not through this personal website. I provide:
- Evaluation and management of adults with hearing loss, tinnitus, hyperacusis, and complex hearing concerns.
- Consultation around challenging or unresolved hearing and tinnitus presentations.
- Participation in hearing therapeutics and tinnitus-related clinical research within UCSF systems of care.
Referrals for clinical care should follow standard UCSF processes (via primary care, otolaryngology, or other referring services) and use UCSF’s own scheduling and referral channels.
Collaborative projects
I work with clinicians, health systems, and organizations on projects that focus on:
- Designing and refining care pathways for hearing loss and tinnitus across teams and settings.
- Quality improvement work related to access, patient experience, and outcomes in audiology.
- Developing or evaluating patient education programs and digital resources.
- Integrating research and clinical trials into routine audiology workflows.
These collaborations are typically structured through UCSF or institutional partnerships. The EARS patient education hub is one example of this type of work.
Speaking and teaching
I speak and teach for clinical teams, conferences, and organizations on topics such as:
- Tinnitus care models that are evidence-informed and feasible in real-world practice.
- Communicating about hearing and tinnitus in complex or high-uncertainty cases.
- Designing and sustaining patient education programs in audiology.
- Integrating hearing therapeutics and clinical research into existing clinic structures.
- Systems and pathways for collaborative hearing and tinnitus care across disciplines.
Additional background on my work is available on Projects & Research.
Training and mentorship
Within UCSF, I work with audiology trainees and early-career clinicians through clinical supervision, teaching, and program development projects. I am particularly interested in:
- Helping trainees connect individual patient care with systems-of-care and quality improvement.
- Introducing practical frameworks for tinnitus counseling and patient communication.
- Engaging learners in patient education and pathway-design initiatives.
For external organizations, I participate in invited talks, workshops, and educational initiatives rather than one-on-one career counseling by email.
Selected Examples of Work
- Patient education & digital resources:
Developed the core concept and led the audiology side of building and launching the EARS patient education hub, an online library of plain-language resources for people with hearing loss and tinnitus. - Tinnitus care pathways:
Helped design and refine structured tinnitus counseling and education approaches that can be delivered consistently across clinicians and clinics. - Integration of hearing therapeutics and clinical trials:
Worked on incorporating research and trial opportunities into routine audiology workflows, so that appropriate patients can consider new options within existing care pathways. - Interprofessional collaboration:
Partnered with otology, primary care, mental health, and rehabilitation colleagues on models of care for patients with complex hearing and tinnitus needs.
